irounded areolae, contiguous to a thin crust or + approaching, a
darkened hypothallus somelimes seen at edge of thallus. Apothecia
dense or scattered. sessile and constricted at base, regularly 0.5 n.m
across, disc dark reddish brown, plane, surrounded by a rather thick,
prominent thallus margin, concolorous with the thallus and of|en
minutely crenulate or fissured.

Apothecia 0.3—0.45 mm thick, pale part 150—200 [j. deep. Edge
60—100 [j. thick, gonidial stratum 35—50 (j. or somelimes replaced by
a broad exciple. Cortex typically 30—35 u. laterally, extenuated at tlie
verv edge, pale yellowish without distinct cells or hyphae, partlv
continuous below, partly indistinct laterally with a 10—20 u thick
amor-phous stratum ön surface, always Pd—. Exciple at edge and laterally
(17)—50 inside gonidial stratum or 70 ij. broad without gonidia with
thin, towards edge fulvous brown surface and iintricate hyphae, I—.
Hypothecium 30—50(70) [j. at centre, in part brownish yellow or only
yellowish with indistinct, intricate, 1 -2 [j. cells. Thecium 100—130
hyaline, 1+ dark blue like hypothecium; upper 15—20 u ±dark
yellowish or pale or dark fulvous brown, Pd—. Paraphyses in much
gelatine, 1—1.5 [j., tips in KOH 3.5—5 sometimes repeatedlv clavate.
Spores 8, often shrunk, greenish brown to brown, 30—35X13—
15(17) ij., slightly constricted at 3.3—5 ^ thick sep tum, apical wall
sometimes convex inwards, 3.5—5 [j. thick. Asci about 85X24 ij., apical
wall 6—7 p. thick. — Apothecia like thallus faintly yellow in KOH.
