the northernmost Russia through Finland lo Gotland, Öland, Blekinge.
Scania, and Sealand. South of Denmark the western limit of V. polesica
and related forms may cross the continent from the Baltic lo Spain;
the exact position of the limit cannot, however, he given al present for
lack of sufficient information of the floras of Central Europe.
The distribution in Denmark is rather peculiar; the plant occurs
in the dune areas at Hasle and in the south-east corner of the island of
Bornholm in the Baltic and in Northwest Sealand on the shores of
Southern Kattegat (including the Sejero Bugt). In Bornholm il has five
localities: East of Boderne near to the Raghammer Odde (K. Wiinstedt
1937, T.W.B. 1947), East of Raghammer Odde (T.W.B. 1947),
Strandmarken i K. Wiinstedt 1928, Svend Andersen 1933), North of
Due-odde, and dry slope a I »Smaragdsöen» (Sorlhat) near Hasle (Svend
Andersen 1936). In Sealand it occurs in seven localities in Ihe
northernmost part of Odsherred, viz. Strandmark near Tengslemark Lvng
(Svend Andersen 1928, K. Wiinstedt 1934), Stenstrup Lvng (K.
Wiinstedt 1934), Gudminderup-Højby Lvng (Svend Andersen 1928),
Nyköbing Badestrand (T.W.B. 1947), between dunes outside the Skæreby
road (Svend Andersen 1942). Klitborg (T.W.B. 1945), and Rorvig
outside the Amtsplanlage (Svend Andersen 1942).
The two Danish areas of Festuca polesica are placed abl. 150 miles
from each other but to a certain extent they are connected by Ihe
Scanian area which is situated between Sealand and Bornholm. A map
of the South Swedish distribution kindly placed al my disposal by
Docenl H. Weimarck, Ph. D., Lund, shows abundant occurrences
along the Baltic in eastern and southern Scania, but only very few
localities along the west coast, where the species at present is only
known from a place near Engelholm at the Kattegat (Skelder Viken).
From this locality there are about 40 miles lo the localities in Sealand,
and the distance from South-Eastern Scania lo Bornholm is only some
