l<> Denmark from Southern Scania, and perhaps this immigration took
place fairly recently.
The localities at R a g h a m m e r O d d e. At the
»Ragham-mer Odde» a small tongue of land at the south coast of Bornholm a
profile transect from the beach cuts (he following belts:
(1). Agropyrum junceum - Ehjmus arenarius - Ammophila baltiea: pll 6.3.
(2). Ammophila baltiea - Ehjmus - Festuca rubra - Carex areuaria - Galium
verum - Hieracium umbellatum - Hypochoeris radicata; pll 5.5.
(3). Thymus serpyltum - Carex areuaria - Artemisia campestris -
Brachy-thecium albicans, and, secondarily, Anthoxanthum odoratum, Hieracium
umbellatum, Corynephorus canescens, Jasione montana, Hypnum cuprcssiforme,
Dicranum scoparium’, pH 5.8.
(4). Thymus serpylhim - Cladonia mitis - CI. alcicornis - Hypnum
cuprcssiforme - Bhacomitrium canescens. and, secondarily, Corynephorus, Jasione,
Galium verum; pll 5.3.
(5). Corynephorus - Cladonia mitis-CI. silvatica - CI. destricta -
Cornicu-laria aculeata, and, secondarily, Jasione, Carex areuaria. Thymus. Hypochoeris
radicatcc, pH 5.7.
Along this bell transect Festuca polesica was absent, but i! occurred
east and west of (lie point in older more acid dune soils with a higher
conlenl of organic matter and in more stabilized vegetations. East of
I he point il grows abundantly in a Festuca polesica- Artemisia
campestris - Cladonia mitis - sociation with scattered Carex areuaria, Galium
verum, Jasione, Silene nutans, Anthoxanthum, Cladonia silvatica, tenuis,
fareata, ranyiformis, alcicornis, yluuca and pityrea, and Rhacomitrium
canescens. The pH of the soil was measured al 5.1 and 5.2. Festuca
polesica was dominant in patches on level ground and frequent on
sunny slopes but completely absent from dune slopes with northerly
exposure. Here the most prominent vegetation type was a Thymus
-Polypodium - Dicranum scoptuium - sociation, which may be invaded
by Catilina vulgaris and develop into a Catilina heath with abundant
Polypodium and bryophvtes.
West of the point Festuca polesica enters two rather different
communities, viz. a Festuca polesica - Carex arenaria - Rhacomitrium
canescens - soc. on very dry rather acid soil (pH 4.6). and a
Thymus-Artemisia - Dianthus deltoides - Hypnum cupressiforme - soc.. a
very-stable grassland vegetation on level soil rich in humus ipH 5.1). The
composition of Ihe two sociations is shown in Table 1 nos. 1 and 4.
The locality K lit b org. In this locality the sea coast is
bordered by Ihree rows of dunes. A belt transect reminds of that
described above:
