Ed McCurdy is presented from Van-
couver in a series of six programs, each
featuring a different tradition in
North American folk ballads.
Prairie Schooner (2215 GMT), tunes
and dances of Canada’s pioneer West
played by Jimmy Gowler and his
orchestra from Winnipeg.

Thursdays

Women in the New World (1700
and Sundays at 1430 GMT). Cana-
dian women and visitors to Canada
talk about matters of particular
interest to women in Great Britain.

Folks Songs (1715 and Saturdays
at 2200 GMT), including songs of
the Americas; featuring the “Inca
Taky Trio” of Peru and Canadian
ballad singers.

Let’s Listen to Music (2215 GMT),
a program of recorded music intro-
duced by Patricia Fitzgerald.

Cross Section (2245 and Sundays
at 1945 GMT). Athol Stewart,
young Canadian writer, portrays the
lives of individual Canadians he has
met along the way.

Fridays

Farm Review (1700 and Saturdays
at 2245 GMT), reports on food
production in Canada and on matters
of interest to agriculturists.

Listeners’ Corner (2215 GMT), an
informal half-hour in which Liston
Burns and Patricia Fitzgerald present

answers to listeners’ letters and
musical selections.

Discovering Canada (2245 and
Mondays at 1700 GMT). Visitors

to Canada and Canadians unfold
personal discoveries they have made
in this country.

Saturdays

Young Ideas (1700 and Sundays at
1700 GMT), a program presented by
young Canadians about their own
activities.

Canadian Sports Week (1715 and
2215 GMT). Tom Derbyshire sums
up the week’s sport in Canada and
presents interviews with outstanding
sports enthusiasts.

United Nations

Eye-witness accounts of the United
Nations proceedings are broadcast by
the CBC International Service in its
regular programs in English, French,
Dutch, Czech, German, Danish, Nor-
wegian, Swedish, Spanish and Por-
tuguese. These accounts are given
by CBC International Service editors
assigned to the United Nations as
well as by specially-engaged commen-
tators. CBC reports from the United
Nations have been relayed regularly
in France, Denmark, Norway and
Sweden.

Special United Nations commen-
tators heard recently include Burton
Keirstead, head of the department of
economics at McGill University; King
Gordon, former Canadian university
professor now living in the United
States; Edmond Turcotte, Canadian
journalist and news analyst; and
J. B. McGeachy, editorial writer for:
one of Canada’s leading newspapers.
