THE CBC INTERNATIONAL SERVICE has as one
of its chief functions the job of telling radio listeners in other
lands about events in Canada which are likely to interest
them. The Canadian International Trade Fair, attended
by manufacturers and buyers from scores of countries, fits
this pattern to a tee. The Voice of Canada has set up a
special broadcasting studio at the Fair so that day-to-day

reports in many languages may go out with the least delay.

News from the Trade Fair must travel overland by line for
nearly 1,000 miles to reach the 50,000-watt shortwave trans-
mitters at Sackville, New Brunswick, near the Atlantic Coast.
To the staff of the International Service this is anything but
an unusual occurrence. In fact, every day of the year the
voices of CBC reporters are ‘“‘fed’’ to Sackville with accounts

of happenings in all corners of the Canadian community.

The programs of the CBC International
Service, all produced or edited at the
studios in Montreal before being sent to
Sackville for transmission, at present
serve Europe, the Caribbean, Latin Ame-
rica, Australia and New Zealand regularly
in ten languages.
