twisted and oddly shaped out of the
waters of the Gulf of St. Lawrence;
November 28, The story of ‘Gros
Isle”, the Isle of Death. Years ago,
about the time of the first large-
scale Irish immigration to Canada
(1830-1850), this island served as a
quarantine base for hundreds of
unhappy people suffering from such
diseases as typhus and diphtheria.
For many of them it was their first
and last view of Canada.
International Shortwave Listening
(Tuesdays). A series of programs for
and about shortwave listeners. On
November 1 the series leads off with a
program marking the 20th Anniver-
sary Celebrations of the International
Look” at the leaves and flowers,
Canada’s autumn. November 8,
“Des Joachims”, a description of
the building of a great power project;
November 15, ‘‘Navan Cemetery”,
in a little Ontario village: Novem-
ber 22, “La Mer Bleue”, a mysterious
swamp that engulfs farms like islands.

Evening Recital (Thursdays). <A
series of performances by outstanding
Canadian artists.
Folk Songs (Tuesdays). Canadian
ballad singer Alan Mills interprets
North American folk songs and traces
the origin of each.
Prairie Schooner (Sundays). Jimmy
Gowler and his orchestra in Winnipeg
present songs and dances from the
Pioneer West.

Broadcasts.
Shortwave Club. Canadian members
of this club, including W. H. Walters
of Toronto and Orville Lyttle of
North Bay, describe their experiences
in listening.

Three of a Kind (Mondays). A
series of quarter-hour dramatic epi-
sodes written by Norman Creighton
of Hantsport, Nova Scotia. Three
of a Kind relates the day-to-day
experiences and opinions of a typical
Canadian family. The series begins
on November 7 and is presented every
Monday thereafter.
