Four English language transmissions
are directed daily to listeners in the
United Kingdom and in Europe.
The times and frequencies of these
programs are outlined on pages 10
and 11 of this booklet.
News and Commentary
News. Canadian and international
news is broadcast during each of the
four transmissions.
Daily Commentaries Following
the News (except Saturdays). A four-
minute topical commentary follows
the news bulletin at 2200 GMT.
Sundays: Athol Stewart describes jobs
and professions in Canada. His
programs are prepared with the re-
search and assistance of vocational
guidance agencies. Mondays: King
Gordon, special CBC correspondent
at United Nations; Tuesdays: J. B.
McGeachy of the editorial staff of
The Toronto Globe and Mail; Wednes-
days: Reports on the arts in Canada
by Canadian critics; Thursdays: Blair
Fraser, Ottawa correspondent of Mac-
lean’s Magazine.
Saturday Stories. Colourful ac-
counts of Toronto scenes by reporters
Ruth Johnson and Ron Hambleton.
Canadian Primer, or the ABC of
Canada (Sundays). A kindergarten
course in the fundamental facts about
Canada. Teacher Charles Wasser-
mann conducts his radio class from
SIN Go “IO”. Moro 5, “IN? tor
Nightlife; February 12, “O” for Oil:
February 19, ““P” for Pulp and Paper;
February 26, ‘‘Q”’ for Quebec.
History and Current Affairs
The Canadian Story (Mondays)
offers narrative accounts of historical
events, sometimes legendary, some-
times factual, but always faithful to
the spirit of the pioneer days. Since

calls his
“pupils” to order each Sunday at 2245 — 2300
GMT, when Canadian Primer provides weekly
an A B C of basic Canadian facts.
“Professor” Charles Wasserman
The teacher is a Montreal broadcaster and
writer, and lis pupils from their studios across
Canada are also active in journalism and
radio.
Canada’s regions are so diverse and
widely separated, the CBC prefers to
go directly to the province or area for
the story. A Maritimer may one week
tell of the Cape Breton Giant, who
flourished within this century; or
from the Prairies may be heard of the
days of the Riel Rebellion in ’85.
This Week (Tuesdays). Discussions
of current affairs by Canadians,
guest speakers and visitors to Canada.
February 7, A talk by Professor V. W.
Bladen of the Institute of Industrial
Relations; February 21, Sydney Katz
discusses social attitudes in contempo-
rary Toronto. Mr. Katz is a student
of social work and lecturer on social
topics. He is known for his radio
analysis of the individual’s place and
reaction to society.
Midweek Commentary (Wednes-
days). Discussions on social and
political developments in Canada by
authoritative speakers.
