Program Notes

Four English language transmissions
are directed to listeners in the United
Kingdom and Europe daily. The
times and frequencies of the programs
are listed on pages 10 and 11 of this
booklet.

News and Commentary
News. Canadian and international
news is broadcast three times daily.

Postnews Commentaries (Monday
through Friday). The news to Europe
at 2200 hours GMT is followed by a
four-minute commentary. Mondays:
Wilfrid Eggleston, Ottawa editor of
“Saturday Night Magazine’, and
professor of Journalism at Carleton
College, Ottawa; Tuesdays: Robert
McKeown, Ottawa correspondent for
“The Montreal Standard”: Wednes-
days: Kim Mcllroy, Canadian sports-
caster, presents his weekly sports
review; Thursdays: J. B. McGeachy
of the editorial staff of ‘“The Toronto
Globe and Mail”; Fridays: Reports
from United Nations at Lake Success.

Let’s Look at Science (Sundays at
2210 GMT). A report on current
research and developments in Cana-
dian scientific fields. August 6:
“Magnetic Air Surveys” by Maud
Ferguson of Ottawa; August 13:
“Hot-weather Food Laws and Prac-
tices” by Helen Peters: August 20:
‘Detection of Forest Fires from the
Air” by R. Black; August 27: “Dia-
betic Research” by Charles Wasser-
mann.

Midweek Commentary (Wednes-

Now it’s History (Fridays). A visit
to some scene from Canadian history
with a team of CBC observers who
report the episode as it happened.

Actualities and Interviews

Canadian Chronicle (Monday
through Saturday). The details be-
hind the headlines of the day are
presented by reporters from coast to
coast in Canada. This series is
broadcast twice daily.

Cross Section (Sundays). Interviews
with Canadians on farms, in white
collar jobs and in industry. August 6:
Graham Allen interviews Ralph
Vaughan, lawyer; August 13: Graham
Allen interviews Frank Turner, marine
engineer; August 20: Idabelle Ness
interviews Bob Shannon, farmer;
August 27: Owen Fonseca interviews
