Program Notes
Four English language transmissions
are directed to listeners in the United
Kingdom and Europe daily. The
times and frequencies of the programs
are listed on pages 10 and 11 of this
booklet.
Daily
News. Canadian and international
news is broadcast three times daily.
Postnews Commentaries (Monday
to Friday). A four-minute commen-
tary follows the news to Europe at
2200 GMT. In addition, beginning
in October, a news analysis is heard
immediately following the news to
Britain at 1700 GMT. Listeners in the
United Kingdom thus have an in-
creased opportunity to hear news
commentaries specially prepared for
their region, when the occasion arises.
Canadian Chronicle (Monday to
Saturday). Reporters from coast to
coast in Canada present details be-
hind the headlines of the day. This
series is broadcast twice daily.
Sundays
Listeners’ Corner. In this quarter-
hour program interesting letters from
overseas listeners are read and answer-
ed, and a preview given of program
highlights.
Family Tree. This series continues
with documentary accounts of the
histories of Canadian families. Each
week’s story is told by a member of
the family described, and illustrated
with dramatized episodes from the
past. In October a Greek Canadian,
living in Montreal, tells the first
family tale; in the following weeks
three people from Ontario describe
their varying origins.
Let’s Look At Science. Short talks
on significant developments in science
in Canada follow the news at 2210

weekly dramatized documentaries pre-
sented to give listeners an authentic
impression of various industries,
trades, and professions in Canada.
The series originates alternately from
the five main production centres of
the CBC: Halifax, Montreal, Toronto,
Winnipeg, and Vancouver. In Octo-
ber the first ‘“‘Canadians At Work”
program is called “The Saga of
Nathan the Tailor’. This tells the
story of one aspect of the tailoring
industry in Montreal, and also offers
a small scale study of industrial rela-
tions.
Tuesdays
Canadiana. This program presents
legends, stories, historical narrative,
and current adventure with the object
