Employing only three sets of directional antenna
systems, the CBC International Service 1s able
to cover practically all parts of the world with
relatively high concentration by electrical reversal
and slewing of the beam direction in the antenna
switching room located at the rear of the trans-
mitter building. Here the European beam
can be reversed to serve Mexico, Central America,
and New Zealand; the African beam to serve
Australia and New Zealand; and the South
American beam can be reversed to serve Asia
and part of Australia. Field Maintenance
Supervisor Fraser Cooke is here seen apera-
ting the switches; the view through the window
shows the transmission lines feeding the
various arrays.

Poste d’aiguillage des émetteurs sur ondes
courtes du Service International de Radio-
Canada à Sackville, Nouveau-Brunswick. Trois
jeux d’antennes directionnelles télécommandées
et réversibles peuvent ‘‘couvrir” presque toutes
les parties du monde. Ainsi, le faisceau
européen renversé touche le Mexique, l’Amérique
Centrale et la Nouvelle-Zélande; la même opé-
ration dirige le faisceau africain vers] l’Australie
et la Nouvelle-Zélande tandis que celui de
l’Amérique du Sud dessert l’Asie et une partie
de l’Australie. Le chef opérateur Fraser Cooke
règle les faisceaux ‘‘couplés” dont on voit par la
fenêtre les lignes de transmission.
