a demand that Ribbentrop refused with equal
firmness, primarily because he had no wish to see
the Scandinavian countries exposed to the danger
of bolshevization.
Should the German eastern front collapse, the
whole of Europe was in grave danger of
becoming bolshevized, Ribbentrop went on. He asserted
that he knew all the details of Stalin’s plans for
Europe, which aimed at nothing less than the
creation of a number of Soviet republics on the
Continent. He went so far as to tell me the names of
the individuals Stalin had chosen to be the leaders
of these satellites of the Soviet Union. However,
he diplomatically left out his own country and
Scandinavia. He assured me that if Germany were
to lose the war, Russian bombers would be over
Stockholm within six months and that the
Bolsheviks would shoot all the members of the Royal
Family, myself included. From talks he had had
with Stalin, he was also convinced that it was
Russia’s intention to subjugate, not only the whole
of Europe, but also India and China, and that
therefore every bomb Churchill and Roosevelt
