EPILOGUE
In the course of my travels in Germany in the
spring of 1945 I received much information about
the leading figures of the Third Reich from
sources that must be regarded as reliable. This
information has convinced me that it is extremely
important for the future well-being of the world
that absolute clarity be attained on two points.
First, it must be made absolutely clear to the
German people that Germany in 1945 suffered a
complete defeat, not only on the military front, but on
all fronts, just as in 1918, when, however, German
propaganda soon produced the “stab in the back”
by the home front as the real reason for the defeat.
The myth of German invincibility must once
and for all be destroyed. No more legends
such as the “stab in the back” must be
countenanced. Secondly, the German people must be
