Results.
I. Land.
1. Division of the land area into classes of land use.
According to a calculation made by the Board of Land Survey at
the beginning of 1934, the land area of Finland amounted to 348 476.8 8
sq. km. This was about 4 878 sq. km or nearly y2 million hectares
more than the result of an earlier and old calculation. The figure for
the land area will naturally change again, as more accurate
measurements are made. For this reason the land area of Finland was rounded
off to 348 500 sq. km or 34 850 000 ha for the purpose of calculating
the results of the forest survey.
According to the completed National Survey of the forests, the
total land area of Finland is divided into various classes of land use,
productive and poor productive forest land, waste land and cultivated
areas, building sites, roads etc., as shown in Table 1. For the sake of
comparison the results of the first National Survey of the forests of
Finland in 1922—23 are given in the same table in relation to the land
area as calculated at that time.
