våxter, langs kapselinsertionen derimod tykke, afrundede
voldformede lignende, hvilke på brudfladen viser samme
bygning som spongiøs substans. Tuberositas tibiae stårkt
fremtrådende.
7. Af laggebenet (fibula) mangler den nederste
ende. Benet tykt, sårdeles kraftigt, viser samme stårke
muskellinjer og benede udvåxter pa caput som lår- og .
skinneben.
Konklosion
De beskrevne ben har alle tilhørt et menneske;
antallet af benene taler ikke imod, medens de fålles egen-
skaber, benenes styrke, de fremtrådende muskelinsertio-
ner og de (sygelige) benede udvåxter, hvilke findes på
samtlige ben, taler stårkt for, at de har tilhørt et og
samme individ.
Styrken af proc. mastoideus og øvrige muskelinser-
tioner taler med sikkerhed for, at individet har våret en
mand, de fuldstandigt manglende epifyser for, at han
har våret voxen, og sammenlodningen af suturerne og
af baghovedbenet med sphenoideum såvelsom størrelsen
af sinus sphenoidei og af marvhulerne for, at han har
passeret 50årsalderen; men han kan også have
våret åldre. Långden og tykkelsen af samtlige ben
lader slutte, at manden har våret sårdeles kraftigt
bygget. Lågges Hoffmanns!) udmålingstabeller over
et antal mand og et større antal løse skeletdele til grund,
i hvilken meddelelse lingden af en mand såttes til
1.678 meter, så erholdes følgende 3 ligninger:

7. Of the fibula the lower end is wanting. The
bone is thick, exceedingly powerful, and shows the same
strong lines of muscle and bony excrescences on its
head as the femur and the tibia.
Conoclusiöon:
All the bones described have belonged to a man;
the common qualities, the strength of the bones, the
protruding muscle-insertions and the bony excrescences,
found on all the bones strongly indicate that they have
belonged to one individual, while the number of
bones does not contradict such a supposition,
The strength of the mastoid process and of other
muscle-insertions prove to a certainty, that the bones
have belonged to a male individual, that the epi-
physes are entirely wanting, shows that he has been a
grown up man; and the close bony conjunetion of
the sutures and of the sphenoid bone. with the sphe-
noideum, as well as the size of the sinus sphenoidei and
of the medullary canals prove, that he has passed
the age of 50 years, but that he may have been
older. The length and the thickness of all the bones
lead to the conclusion, that the man has been very
strongly built. If Mr. Hoffmann’s measuring tables 1)
of a number of men and of a greater number of loose
parts of skeletons in which the length of a man is put
down at 1.678 metres be made the basis, we get the
following equations:

Heraf er man berettiget til at slutte, at manden har
_varet sårdeles højvoxen eller over 6 norske fod.
Også angående andre forhold giver disse få ben
oplysning. Langs randen af samtlige ledflader af de fore-
fundne ben svarende til ledkapslernes insertioner finder
vi spor af abnormt sygelig bendannelse i enkelte i meget
høj grad, i andre i ringere. Dette må betragtes som
rester efter kronisk leddegigt (arthritis defor-
mans). Sygdommen har våret stårkest i venstre knå-
led, hvor den i hej grad må have besvirliggjort gan-

Also in other respects these few bones give us some
information. Along the borders of all the surfaces of
the joints of the bones found, corresponding with the
attachments of the capsule of the joints, we have disco-
vered traces of abnormal morbid bony formation, in some
of them in a very high degree, in other in a lesser degree.
These traces must be considered as having supervened
of a chronic rheumatism in the joints (anthritis deformans)
and this disease has been strongest in the left knee-joint,
