but for the present it was a matter of impossibilitie, & it would
bee a great favour to them to bee spared but a little.

I brought him from this subiect, in repeating the testimonie
w:ch yow gaue of his Ma:ties inclination to bee reuenged of the
affront receiued from the Spaniard. & then hee did aske me if I
did belieue really (& said hee would haue me to speake as a man
of conscience as a Divine my opinion) y:t his Ma:tie would doe
any thing in this cause; I told him y:t although I was not capable
neither did I make it my worke to reflect upon matters of state y:t
neuerthelesse I did truly belieue partly from the sufficiencie &
sinceritie of yowr iudgment partly from the coniectures w:ch I was
able to make of mine owne from certain observations w:ch I
concerned very probable, y:t his Ma:tie would doe for his Nephew so
much as to make him Considerable as one of the Confederates of
the cause; & y:t if any thing was to bee contributed to this effect
to any forraine state to helpe to maintaine ye warre y:t he would
rather contribute it unto the Crowne of Sweden then to France or
any other; & I said y:t we thought they did not well to neglect
the occasion w:ch did so auspiciously offer it self at this tyrne unto
them: hee said they did not neglect it but were as busie as they
could bee to make use of it; & y:t they hadde alreddie sent unto
their Ambassador Saluius at Hamburg particular Commissions to y:t

with further instructions w[ha]t to doe & y:t they would send in
due tyrne an Extraordinarie also unto Hamburg when they should
know of the tyrne of others arrivall, that in the meane tyrne these
might be busie in the preparatiues of the worke; & y:t if there
were any reall purposes matters might bee without great difficultie
treated & concluded.

Then I spoke to him concerning mine owne worke & told him
y:t I could not find in mine heart to go from hence except the
scandale raised by the Bishop of Westerose was quite appeased;
& y:t I was desirous to putte it to a triall whether hee would bee
irreconcileable towards me yea or not; I told him y:t my scope was
to part in peace & leaue no seed of dissension behind me, but to
leaue them matter to think upon till the worke might become more
ripe in all mens mindes & perhaps the concurrence of States might
make it public. Therefore I desired his Authoritie & Prudencie to
concurre in restraining his unseasonable boisterousnesse. This hee
promised to doe & told me y:t hee could wish y:t I hadde beene
by to haue heard w:t hee said last unto him when hee was at
Westerose; so I tooke my leaue & here yow haue all y:t I can informe
yow for the present: only I haue understood from one of my good
acquaintance y:t is priuie to the affaires of state, y:t they are intending
to send two unto the meeting who are to bee ioint in Commission,
hee named unto me the Earle Peter one of the priuie Counsell to
