westin, brev från john durie 2 5 3

bee one & to him hee thought they would ioyne one of those y:t
hadde beene of the L. Chancelours counsell in the affaires of
Ger-manye. This Count Peter is a discreet Nobleman; hee is
gouver-nour of Finland. This same man told me also y:t they hadde gotten
very probable newes from the Court of Vienna concerning a secret
resolution taken by aduice also from Spaine y:t Count Curtz was
to bee sent with a commission to Hamburg to treat with the Swedes
& offer them conditions of Peace; w:ch hee thought they would not
bee unwilling to accept if they were not otherwise assisted. Hee
told me also y:t they hadde gotten intelligence y:t Count Sleich was
to bee Generalissimo of the Emperour, & y:t hee hadde gotten a
commission almost with the same plenipotence wxh Wallestein hadde
last, & y:t hee would bend himself wholly against France & the löwe
Countryes. The newes of Pomerland y:t came hither tenne dayes
ago are y:t the passes about Stettin wherby it may bee relieued by
water from Stralsund are lost partly by ouersight partly by strenth
of the ennemies; & seeing the ennemies are so strong I feare y:t
the succour wxh yow intend to giue will come too låte, if it bee
not early giuen in the Spring. Thus I rest & commend yow to
God as

Yowr Worship his

Most obliged & Humble seruant in Christ

John Durye.

Stockholm this 9. Decemb. 1637.

To Laurentius Paulinus Got hus.1
(Stockholm, 18 Dec. 1637.)

Gratiam & Pacem!

Intellexi Reverendiss:e in Christo Pater, non ita pridem, brevi
futurum hoc in loco Cleri conventum. Hoc nuncium mihi aurem
vellicavit, & ad alacritatem in opere meo excitavit. Ergo responsum
adornavi ad Epistolam, quam Rev. D:nus Laurelius mihi in Septembri
tradidit, nomine Facult:is Theologicæ, quando hie ultimo fuit. In
eo Phrases adversus quas suas instituunt exceptiones, fuse explico;
ut sensum nostrum in ijs intelligant, & mihi deinceps significent an
ilium admittere velint. Praeterea statum Dissidij inter me &
Arosi-ensem Episcopum exorti, judiciis ipsorum peculiari Scripto subijeere
consultum putavi, ut me Consilio suo in Casibus Conscientiæ duobus
resolvendis juvent, ad scandali publici incommoda prævenienda, quæ
ex hoc negotio oriri possent, nisi aliå viå posthåc negotium tractetur,

1 Oxenstiernska saml. (RA). A tergo: Copia Epistolæ ad D. Archiepis.
