In an experiment dressing with fungicide treatment of the seeds in
Halland Panogene treatment of the seed increased the yield of both straw
and seed.
In 99 Weed experiments the following items were tested:
1) Various types of preparation.
2) Various amounts of liquid.
3) Various amounts of preparation.
4) Varying pressure in kilo/cm2 when spraying.
5) Different stages of development of the sprayed flax crop.
These experiments have shown that in spraying with hormon derivatives
about 3—5 liters per hectare should be employed before the flax is more than
5 centimeters high. Nitrocresol should be given to a maximum of 5 kilos
per hectare at a somewhat later stage than when the hormon derivative was
applied hut not after the flax is more than 12 cm high. Mixtures of hormon
derivative and nitrocresol can be recommended for spraying flax. The
syringe pressure should not exceed 12 kilo/cm2.
Fertilizing experiments
Increasing amounts of phosphorus and potash given with 300 and 600
kilos 20% superphosphate and with 200 and 400 kilos of 40% potash salt
gave but slight reaction in South Halland. In other parts of the country
increased yields are assured after the smaller potash application. On the
average no reliable results for phosphorus have been registered either for
ordinary or granulated superhosphate. Nor has autumn fertilizing proved
to be the solution of the phosphorus problem for flax. Heavy applications
of phosphate have not given the result expected in the field although pot
experiments with the same soil showed marked increases.
Individual experiments have shown results considerably above the
average for both phosphorus and potash. Potash applied free from chlor has not
shown any improvement beyond the ordinary 40% commercial artide.
In 13 experiments in South Halland 100 kilo of ammonium sulphate raised
the yield of straw by 350 kilo per hectare.
Country-wide averages indicate an increased yield of 230 kilo straw after
an application of 200 kilo saltpetre or respectively sulphate of ammonium.
No reliable indications as to the right time for applying ammonium
sulphate have been registered.
Of the trace elements boron after testing in a few experiments has led to
considerably higher yields, while agricultural salt (sodium chloride) made
no change in the yield.
