The leading manufacturers in this branch, in
addition to A/S Elektrisk Bureau, are A/S Per Kure,
Norsk Elektrisk & Brown Boveri, National Industri,
and N. Jacobsons Elektriske Verksted A/S.
The foremost manufacturer and exporter of
ironmongery is Christiania Spikerverk, whose
production includes such articles as nails, spades,
forks, horse-shoes, scythe blades, axes; fencing,
telegraph, and chain wire. Fish hooks manufac-
tured by O. Mustad & Son have a world-wide
market.
The Stavanger Electro-Staalverk A/S of Stavanger
is perhaps best known for its high-speed steel,
the “Nansen” steel. The company enjoys so
high a reputation for the excellent quality of
its products that it has been able to maintain
practically unchanged the volume of its exports
to European and over-seas markets, despite high
customs barriers and trade restrictions.
The organisation of the Norwegian engineering
industry is De Mekaniske Verksteders Landsforening,
Oslo. This national association comprises six
branch groups: Iron & Metal Ware Manufacturers,
the Electro-Technical Industry, Engineering &
Constructional Works, Stove Founders, Ship-
builders, and Founders.
