Of these shipments in 1933 Norwegian-owned
mines contributed 263,150 tons.
Norwegian ore deposits are very considerable,
and the iron pyrites and iron ore mines have a
productive capacity far in excess of the present
output. A great amount of capital has been sunk
in these mines and important technical improve-
ments have been effected, with the result that
Norwegian mines may now be said to be tech-
nically up to date.
NITROGEN
Norsk Hydro — Elektrisk Kveelstoffaktieselskab
(Norsk Hydro) has its power and manufacturing
plants, stocks, and harbour works in the county
of Telemark. The company has so far developed
hydro-electric energy corresponding to an annual
productive capacity of 100 000 tons of pure nitrogen.
By a further reconstruction of the works for
ammonia synthesis this capacity can be substan-
tially increased without the necessity of further
power development. At the Rjukan, Notodden, and
