world’s supply of paper, but that her contribution
is nevertheless of some importance will be under-
stood from the fact that she ranks fourth in the
list of paper-exporting countries.
At the present day Norway has 41 paper mills
and 9 cardboard (and other board) mills, with
a capacity of 440,000 tons of paper and 40,000
tons of cardboard, etc. These manufactures com-
prise all ordinary qualities and a number of
specialities.
Paper manufactures fall into two main groups:
Printings & Writings and Packing Paper, each of
which embraces many different kinds.
Annual exports average the following figures:
Printings & Wrilings ....... . . 235,000 tons
Of which: Newsprint. ..... 180,000 tons
Thin printings. . . . 15,000 »
Other printings(contain-
ing wood pulp) .. 10,000 »
Wood-free printings and
writings. .... . 30,000 »
Packing Paper. . 3 2.33 65 5 = = - 90,000 tons
Of which: Kraft ....... - 35,000 tons
