KLIPFISH PRODUCTION
In recent years ever-increasing importance has
been attached to fish as a food. This is reflected
in the systematical efforts now being made in
many countries with a view to increasing the
household consumption of fish. There are several
reasons for this. The more important of them are
to be found in the results of dietetic research,
which has established that fish is a food of unusually
great value to the health of a nation. It has been
proved, amongst other things, that fish, or more
precisely the liver of fish, is richer in those vita-
mins which are of such exceptional importance
to the human organism, than any other known
product. It has further been proved that saltwater
fish and various products thereof, on account of
their iodine value, are an uncommonly efficacious
prophylactic for goitre — a disease particularly
prevalent where the population consumes little
or no fish.
As one of the leading fishery countries in the
world Norway, too, has taken part in this research.
The work done by Norwegian scientists includes
an extensive investigation of the iodine content
