convention, in addition to Norway, are Albania, Germany, the U.S.A., Belgium, Great Britain and Northern Ireland, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, India, Columbia, Denmark, Spain, Finland, France, Greece, Italy, Mexico, Holland, Poland, Roumania, Switzerland, Czechoslovakia, Turkey, and Jugoslavia. Pursuant to Article 17 of the Convention it shall take effect immediately it is ratified by not less than eight members of the League of Nations and among them Norway and Great Britain and Northern Ireland. As Great Britain has ratified it in 1934 it has now come into force, it having received the ratification of the required number of countries and of several others. * Norwegian whaling companies have formed an association: Hvalfangerforeningen.
