exercised by the local health committee. This
measure applies only in communes which have
petitioned for and been granted such authority
by Order in Council. This act is somewhat wider
in scope than the Child Maintenance Act.
Maintenance of Children born in Wedlock. (Act
of April 10, 1915, No. 6, relating to parents and
legitimate children, with supplementary acts).
It provides that a maintenance order may be
enforced against any person who deserts his (her)
spouse and (or) children and does not provide
for their maintenance to the best of his (her)
ability.
Maintenance of Illegitimate Children (Act of April
10, 1915, No. 3, with supplementary acts), relating
to the maintenance of children whose parents are
not legally married, gives the child the right to
bear the name of its father or mother, imposes
upon the father the duty of contributing an allow-
ance during the period of pregnancy and towards
the maintenance of the child.
Child Neglect. The Acts of June 6, 1896 and
May .23, 1930, and several amending acts relate
to children under 18 years of age who have been
guilty of bad conduct, have proved unamenable
to home and school discipline, or who have been
guilty of punishable offences or of acts which
bear evidence of moral perversion or of neglect,
or who by reason of the depravity or negligence
of parents or. of other persons responsible for
their’ upbringing may be found in a state of
