Seaworthiness of Ships. Acts of June 9, 1903, and
June 16, 1933, and other measures, provide for the
State control of the seaworthiness of ships.
Working Hours in Norwegian Ships. Acts of
July 11, 1919, and June 10, 1932, give regulations
in respect of working time at sea and in port for
deck and engineroom hands, cooks and stewards,
also respecting Sunday work, off-watch work, over-
time, and so on.
SOCIAL INSURANCE AND RELIEF
National Health Insurance. Acts of June 6, 1930,
and June 16, 1933, introduced the compulsory
insurance of employed persons with an income
not exceeding Kr. 4500 (voluntary for persons with
an income not exceeding Kr. 6000). In compul-
sory insurance °/10 of the premium is paid by
the member, '/10 by the employer, '/10 by the
commune, and 2/0 by the State. Benefits: Medical
and obstetrical aid, sickness benefit, hospital treat:
ment, family benefit, maternity benefit, and a
contribution to funeral expenses.
‘Accident Insurance for Industrial Workers. The
Act of June 24, 1931, provides for the compulsory
insurance of factory, mine, building and forest
workers, navvies, railway and tramway men, divers.
dock labourers, certain transport workers, and
labourers on farms employing mechanical motive
power. The premium is paid by the employer
