The Iron and Steel Works at Kohlswa.
KOHLSWA JERNVERKS AKTIEBOLAG
(THE KOHLSWA IRON WORKS CO., LTD.)
THE centre of this Company’s activity is the KOHLSWA IRON AND STEEL WORKS,
situated about 81 miles W.N.W. of Stockholm, i. e., about the middle of that part
of the country which Swedes usually, but incorrectly, call "Central Sweden". The
Company also owns the KÖPING BLAST-FURNACE at Lake Mälaren, outside the town of
Köping, and 71/2 miles south-east of Kohlswa. Pig-iron is manufactured there.
CONDITIONS OF TRANSPORT.
Kohlswa lies on the river Hedströmmen at Kohlswa Station on the Köping
-Uttersberg Railway. The Works sends out their products either by rail via Köping or
via Krampen Railway Station (the latter on the State Railway) to the principal ports of
Sweden, such as Stockholm, Gothenburg, Oxelösund, &c., or else, except in the winter
when navigation is closed for some three to four months, goods are shipped to a very
great extent on Lake Mälaren to Stockholm, or by direct vessel to Baltic or other
continental ports.
