Walloon forge at österby.

Since the building at
Österby of the above
mentioned
Siemens-Martin Works, which was
ready in 1919, there is to be a reduced sale of pig iron which will, instead, be
manufactured into steel at the works.
The Walloon iron from Österby is sold with the stamps (double bullets)

and that from Leufsta with the stamp
For more
than 200 years these trademarks have retained their front rank as distinctive of the
primest steel-iron in the world. The reason of the superiority of this iron for the
manufacture of steel depends, not only on its freedom from sulphur and phosphorus,
but also on its "body" which is superior to that of every other kind of iron in the world. In the production of pig iron for Walloon forgings, the blast furnace is charged with nothing but ores and charcoal, in addition to which, the cold blast process is employed.
The main part of the pig iron and Walloon iron which is not further manufactured at
Österby, is exported, and is also employed as raw material for the production of quality
steel, among other places at the celebrated steel works at Sheffield.
The Crucible Steel, which is manufactured in accordance with the best methods
known, enjoys a lively demand for export too, and, with the stamp DANNEMORA
is in very great request as a tool steel quite comparable with, if not superior to the
best tool material that can be found anywhere in the market.
The crucible steel is produced in a large number of different qualities and classes.
Among the pure carbon steels attention may be called to the classes:
Dannemora 0-5 Dora 0-5.
The highest carbon percentage 1.46-1.60 has the lowest numbers (0) and the lowest
