Company developed considerably both
as regards technical expansion and
financial consolidation. Special
mention may be made in this of respect
the purchase in 1905 of S vana and
Spännarhyttan.
This development of the
Company’s business steadily continued
after 1908 too and after the Swedish
General Electric Co., Ltd., of Vesterås,
became the chief shareholders in the
business in 1917, there commenced a
further period of vigorous
development in the history of the Company. This has been specially characterized by the
erection of large rolling mills for the production of plates and sheets for electrical
purposes.
THE SIEMENS-MARTIN AND ELECTRIC- STEEL WORKS. There are four
Siemens-Martin furnaces of 12, 8, 15, and 20 tons respectively, the first one basic, the others
acid. The production, amounting to about 20,000 tons annually, does not aim at
quantity but at high quality, all of
it being refined at the Company’s
own works.
Special steel for different
purposes is manufactured in a 6 ton
Hé-roult electro-steel furnace.
STEEL CASTINGS are made for
all purposes up to 15 tons’ weight.
Specialities are locomotive wheels,
locomotive frames and other cast
parts for locomotives and railway
carriages, turbine wheels, railway
crossings and ship stems, rudders,
propellers and anchors, structural
steel and machine castings.
Sura-hammar is especially renowned for
its good, solid steel castings with high
figures of tenacity. Eor example, in
1919, the Company, cast för its own
Heavy-plat e mill at Surahammar.
