Cortex 60—70 u, pure white, with the upper 8u brownish and
thereabove a 15—20 amorphous stratum of regular thickness.
Hyphae in waler somewhat indistinct, in alcohol very distinct,
leptodermatous, lumina round or angulose, 3—4 u broad, arranged in
more or less distinct vertical rows. Gonidia 8—12 u, yellowish-
green, forming a 35—70 w thick not dense but unbroken stratum,
Medulla white, very loosely contexted, about 100 u thick, hyphae
3.5—4.5 u thick with long articles and big intercellular spaces.
Lower cortex not well limited, pale brownish, hyphae intricate
with more or less round lumina, sometimes with enclosed single
algae.
Apothecia usually developed in each areola, single or mostly
2—4, small, punctiform, more or less impressed, disc 0.2—0.3 mm.
broad, dark reddish brown, uneven, rough, concave, surrounded
by a somewhat prominent, indistinct margin.
Excipulum indistinct or up to 10 a, yellowish. Hypothecium
50—70 u, grumose. Hymenium about 135 u, upper 15 u yellowish
brown, with J coloured blue or dark wine-red or in strong con-
centration dirty blackish brown. Paraphyses firmly coherent, not
well discrete, about 1.5 u thick, the apices somewhat swollen,
brownish, 3.5. Asci 85—120 X 17 u of different height and shape,
more or less cylindric or clavate. Spores in hundreds, globose or
subglobose, 3.5—5 4.
Habitat. On siliceous rock.

9. Acarospora Suzai H. Magn. n. sp.
Thallus areolatus, plus minus lata expansus, areolae contiguae,
rimis distinctis separatae, obscure fuscae, supra leviter fusco-ciner-
ascentes, reagentibus immutatae, subtus obscurae. Apothecia crebra,
singula vel pauca, saepe irregularia, discus fusco-ater vel nigricans,
planus, thallo subaequatus vel leviter elevatus, rugosus, margine
indistineto. Hymenium angustum. Paraphyses crassae. Sporae
breviter ellipsoideae.
"Thallus areolate, forming somewhat smooth, more or less large
areas, blackish brown, areolae 0.5—1 mm. broad, 0.3—0.4 mm.
