thick, opaque, irregular in shape, often angulate, plane, separated
by broad cracks, surface slightly brown-greyish pruinose, unaltered
by KOH, CaCl,O, and J, somewhat largely affixed to the substra-
tum, with the free margins of the lower side dark brown.
Cortex 15—25 u, upper 6—8 u dark brown with an amorphous
stratum up to 10m thick. Hyphae more or less perpendicular,
leptodermatous, with round or vertically stretched lumina 3.5—5
(—8.5) u, distinct already in water, the end-cells brown with only
slightly thicker wall. Gonidia 8—14 u, in a 50—65 u broad, un-
broken, not dense stratum with even upper surface. Medulla snow-
white, closely contexted, seemingly paraplectenchymatous with
leptodermatous intricate hyphae, lumina very irregular in shape
and size, from 2—6 in diam. Upper part, about 220 «, mostly
pale, lower part darkened from yellowish particles from the stone,
at least to 400 u depth. Medullary hyphae certainly penetrating into
the stone further down, because the stone surface is changed to
about 1 mm, in depth. Lower cortex only visible in the margins,
but there distinct, 8—12 u, dark brown.

broad, dise round or often irregular in shape, very rough, blackish,
Apothecia numerous, as a rule single in each areola, 0.3
in the thalline level or slightly elevated, plane or somewhat convex,
without distinct margin.
Excipulum distinct, white, below 17—30 u thick, in the margin
thinner, hyphae pachydermatous. Hypothecium 35—50 u, in thicker
sections yellowish, with J dark blue. Hymenium 80—90 uu, with J
coloured dark blue, upper 10—15 u dark dirty brown, very uneven,
partly with a thin amorphous stratum. Paraphyses coherent, 2 u
thick, distinetly brown capitate already in water, 3.5 ju, also in
KOH coherent, midmost articles 5—7 u long. Asci 50—60 X 14—17 u,
inflated. Spores at leastone hundred, broadly ellipsoid, 3—4.5 X 2—2.5 uu,
sasily escaping from the asci.
Pyenidia not observed.
Habitat. On granitie rock (serpentine) without accompanying lichens,
Locality.
Czechoslovakia. Moravia, near Mohelno, 250—300 m. 1921. J. Suza.
Type specimen in my herbarium.
