of tliese also occur ön the Swedish side of the Scandinavian
moun-tain-range, hut thev have migrated into Ulis part from their district
along the Norwegian coast. Ön p. 15 the northern plants of the
birch-meadows are mentioned. All the plants of the hirch-meadows do
not originate from the natural vegetation of the spruce-groves and
of the grove-delis, several having been introduced by man.

The damp hirch-meadows of the silurian district of Siljan show
a striking likeness to the Sesleria-meaAows, described by
Hesselman. Primula farinosu is verv characteristic of both societies.

One plant of the hirch-meadows of Dalarne is Lonicera coerulea,
which is verv rare in Fennoscandia. It occurs in a few places in
Dalarne and Västmanland (Central Sweden) and in the most easterlv
parts of Finland, where il is rather common and also has been
found in llie polar birch-region near Ponoj (in Ihe Kola-peninsula).
According lo Norrlin il occurs in different associations in
Onega-Karelen. It is a plant nearly circumpolar belonging to the
pine-forest-region of the northern hemisphere. Therefore il is probably
not a relict from a period of a climate different from the present.
The author thinks, that il has been transported to Sweden by birds
from far-away regions.

A verv great number of southern species occur ön rubble-heaps
below steep rocks and ön rocky escarpments of southern,
sonie-times eastern and western aspect. Such associations are
cha-racterized bv an open vegetation. Lists of plants, which have been
found in such places, are given ön pp. 19 and 20 (ön archæan
limestone and gneiss al the village of Nyberget in St. Skedvi in
southern Dalarne), pp. 20 and 21 (ihe Hykjeberget in Älfdalen, already
investigated by Linné) and |). 21 (silurian limestone at llie
Osmundsberget in Böda). In all tliese places southern species are very
abun-dant, sometimes northern species also occur. The Hykjeberget is of
the greatest in terest. Acer platanoides, Anemone hepatica, Arenaria
trinervia, Asplenium septentrionale and trichomanes, Astragalus
glycy-phyllus, Epilobium coUinum, Geranium robertiamim, liibes alpinuni,
Tilia ulmifolia and Verbascuin thapsus are never found in anv möre
northerly or higher place in this part of Sweden.

Ön pp. 23—25 the alpine and subalpine plants of the
pine-forest-region of Dalarne are enumereted. Soine newly discovered
habi-tats of such planls are particularly mentioned. Several of tliese
alpine and subalpine plants arc rather common in the higher parts
of the pine-forest-region. A great number occur along streams and
