NOTE 156.
BARON REUTERHOLM.
The Baron of that name, whom Swedenborg met in 1743 at the
Court of Adolphus Frederic159 (see Document 207), was Baron
Esbjörn Christian Reuterholm, who was born in 1716, and who was
royal chamberlain at the time Swedenborg met him. In 1765 he
became senator, and died in 1773.
NOTE 157.
TRIEVALD.
Among those whom Swedenborg states he met at Hamburg
in 1743 (see Document 207), was one of the name of Trievald.
Samuel Trievald, a well-known Swedish scholar, had entered the
service of Holstein in 1728. He became governor of Prince
Augustus,158 and died in January, 1743. The Trievald whom
Swedenborg met, was either a son of this Samuel Trievald, or else
his brother Mårten, a well known civil engineer in the Swedish
service.

PRINCE AUGUSTUS.
Prince Frederic Augustus, to whom Swedenborg was presented
in Hamburg in 1743 (see Document 207), was a younger brother
of Adolphus Frederic.159 He was born in 1711, and succeeded his
brother as Prince-Bishop of Lübeck in 1751 ; in 1773, he succeeded
to the earldom or county of Oldenburg, which in 1774 was raised
to the rank of a duchy. He died in 1785.
NOTE 159.
ADOLPHUS FREDERIC.
Adolphus Frederic, Duke of Holstein-Gottorp, was elected
Crown-Prince of Sweden on July 3, 1743 ; thus about six weeks
before Swedenborg was presented to him (see Document 207). He
was at that time administrator of the duchy of Holstein-Gottorp and
Prince-Bishop of Lübeck; in 1750, he abdicated these claims in
favour of his brother Frederic Augustus,158 and in 1751 ascended
the Swedish throne. For further particulars respecting him, see
