OPENING OF SPIRITUAL SIGHT. 1123
This passage is contained in the Arcana Cœlestia,
Vol. V, published in 1753, and the question now arises,
when was it written? As the MS . of that work was sent to
London by instalments from Sweden (see Document 258, p. 497),
and as no. 6200 is contained in the latter part of the volume,
we consider ourselves quite authorized to conclude that it
was written in the same year in which it was printed, viz. 1753,
which furnishes as the date of the opening of Swedenborg’s
spiritual sight ..
21. "It was granted me for twelve years to converse daily
with spirits" (E. U. 1) .
This work is in a great measure a reprint of the memorable
relations published in the Arcana Cœlestia from 1753 to
1756, from which work it was no doubt compiled by the
author in 1756, although it was not published by him until
1758; which again yields the date
.
22. "For thirteen years it was granted me to speak with
angels" (H. H. 1).

·
·
This work was most undoubtedly written in 1757 (as the
last volume of the Arcana had been finished in 1756), although
it was not published until 1758 ; which gives the date of . . 1744.
23. In the "Divine Wisdom" appended to the "Apocalypse
Explained" (VII, 2) is contained the following corroborative
passage, "I had daily intercourse with angels and departed
men from the year 1744."
There can be no doubt whatever about the genuineness
of this number ; as this may be verified by a reference to the
photo-lithographic copy of this work contained in Vol. III of
the Swedenborg MSS., p. 42, line 5 from the bottom of the page.
24. "I have felt the influx from the spiritual world per
ceptibly and sensibly for nineteen years continuously" (D. L.
W. 355).
1744.
It can be fairly assumed that this little work was written
in the same year when published , viz. 1763; which gives
the year
26. In 1764 Swedenborg declared to the Royal Librarian
Gjörwell in Stockholm, that "God Himself had revealed Him
1744.
. . 1744.
This passage is contained in the latter part of that work,
and therefore may be supposed to have been written in the
same year when published, viz. 1763 ; which yields the date . 1744.
25. "The Lord has been pleased to open the eyes of my
spirit, and to keep them open for nineteen years” (C. L.
J. 35).
1744.
