In aetual size also they are larger. The hydrothecse of the
Vega specimens of arctica (?) measure 0,6? mm. in length;
those of specimens from the Willem Barents collection which
I have ascribed to S. albimaris, are only 0,44 mm. long; and
those of Vega specimens of S. tenera, 0,53 mm.

S. F. Clarke’s Pacific and Alaskan collections contain no
species allied to these three.

Sertularia tenera, G. O. Sars.

Pl. 15, fig. 9—11.

This species described from 150 fathoms, off Stavanger, by
Sars, occurs in the Vega collection from 40 fathoms in Long.
92° 20’ E.; a few fragments come also from shallow water in
Yugor Shar. Its range is thus wholly to the westward of
S. arctica, It is elosely allied to the latter species, but tlie
hydrothecse are more markedly subalternate, and are smaller,
shorter and broader. Nevertheless the two are undoubtedly
variants of a common form.

The gonangia have not been found.

Sertularia variabilis, S. F. Clarke.

Pl. 14, fig. 4 and 5.

One or two small specimens from 119° E. long., are to be
referred to this species, described by Clarke from Alaska,
and recorded also by Dall from California. It is an ally of
S. abietina.

The length of the hydrothecse in my specimens is 56 mm.

Hydrallmania falcata, L.

This species was got in Yugor Shar, and there only. It
is common in Barents Sea. The occurence of a kindred species,

H. Franciscana, Trask1, (believed b}r Clarke to be identical
with H. falcata) on the Californian coast, is very inexplicable,
as Hydrallmania does not occ-ur in Cl ark e’s North Pacific or
Alaskan lists, and our Vega collection brings it only from the
extreme west of the Old World.

Localihj: Yugor Shar, 5—8 fathoms.

Murray, Ann. and Mag. N. H., 1860, p. 251.
