Genus Lanceola, Th. Say, 1818.

Head anteriorly concavated, the upper part more or less
projecting into a rostrum. Eyes small, like those in the
Gam-marids, placed uncommonly far down on the sides of the head.
First pair of antennas long, the flagellum more or less
lanceo-late, tumid; somewhat like that in the Vibilida}. Second pair
are long, filiform, with very long joints. Urus like that of the
Hyperiidse.

Sixth pair of pereiopoda are a little shorter than third.
Pleon and urus together are shorter than half the pereion
with the head. Third and fourtli segments of pereion are
swollen into a roll at the anterior margin; the second, fifth
and sixth segments carry also such rolls, but smaller. Rostrum
is wanting. Telson shorter than the peduncles of the last pair
of uropoda.

Length 16 mm.

Hab. Davis strait, at Lat. 72° N. (Exp. of Sofia) (S. M.).

L. Lovéni is easily distinguished from its allies by the
length of the fifth pair of pereiopoda, being nearly as long as
