meeting, greeted the Society briefly and expressed
his interest in and appreciation of its purposes.
The Society then adjourned.
Minutes of the meeting of the Council of the
Swedish Historical Society of America, held at the
office of Joseph G. Sheldon, Room 506—.105
Washington Street, Chicago, April 1, 1908, at 6 p. m.
The following members were present: C. G.
Walle-nius, M. J. Engberg, A. G. S. Joseprson, E. W. Olson,
A. J. Carlson, and J. G. Sheldon. Mr. Wallenius
acted as chairman.
An election of officers of the Society for the
ensuing year was had and the following gentlemen were
duly elected to the offices set opposite their respective
names:
.Dr. Josua Lindahl, President.
Ernest W. Olson, Vice President.
Joseph G. Sheldon, Secretary.
John R. Lindgren, Treasurer.
John Em. Hillberg, Librarian.
A. W. Carlson, Assistant to the Secretary and to
the Librarian.
It was further decided to pay a salary of $50.00
a year to the assistant to the Secretary and Librarian,
The following gentlemen were appointed on the
finance committee: A. E. Johnson, New York,
chairman, F. A. Larson and A. P. Fors; on the committee
on publications: J. G. Sheldon, chairman, Oliver A.
Linder and E. W. Olson; committee on relations with
other organizations: Dr. David Nvvall. McPherson,
