This congregation is one of the first Swedish
Mission congregations organized in the United States.
When the Swedish Mission covenant was organized,
this congregation did not join the covenant. On this
account she has always been a Swedish mission free
congregation. Just a brief sketch is given of the
most prominent Swedish pioneer at Swede Point, C.
J. Cassel, born in 1821, in Östergötland, located at
Swede Point in 1849, and died at tlie same place in
1902. lie was a miller and farmer. He was elected
county supervisor in 1860, He was the first Swedish
county supervisor in Iowa. He was deacon of the
Swedish Lutheran congregation for 30 years. John
Anderson, son of Magnus Anderson, born in 1832 in
Östergötland, located at Swede Point in 1846, and
died at the same place in 1906. ne was a farmer. He
was elected county supervisor in 1896 and served two
terms. Pie was assessor for 30 years, and treasurer
of the school board for 42 years. For 30 years he was
secretary and treasurer for the Swedish Mutual Fire
Insurance Co. When the Madrid State Bank was
organized in 1895, he became president of the bank,
and served until his death. He was trustee and
treasurer of the Swedish Lutheran congregation for 32
years. Peter Anderson, also son of Magnus
Anderson, born in 1828 in Östergötland, came to Swede
Point in 1846, and died at the same place in 1895.
He was one of the most prominent and wealthiest
farmers. C. J. Anderson, son of Anders Carlson,
born in 1830, in Östergötland, located in Swede Point
in 1850, and died at the same place in 1908. He
