Engberg-Hiolmberg Publishing Co. having discounted l$50
from their original printing bill. The publication
committee consisted of Messrs. Charles S. Peterson
and Martin J. Engberg, together with the secretary,

The Council.—Four meetings have been held
during the year, with meetings of the executive
committee in the intervals. No other committees selected
at the annual meeting have, to the knowledge of
the secretary, manifested any activity whatsoever.
Two resolutions of some moment have been passed.
One is, to begin the colieetiou of the fundamental
data in the local history of all Swedish-American
settlements. Pursuant thereto, the necessary
question blanks were printed, and the Council purposed
to secure donations to carry on this extensive
correspondence. No such donations forthcoming, and
the treasury being at a low ebb, the secretary deemed
it inadvisable to incur the required expenditure. The
second resolution, to publish a periodic historical
leaflet in the interest of the society and its cause, has
riot as yet been carried out, chiefly on the same
grounds. These things could not have been done
without a total depletion of the funds of the society.
The large percentage of members in arrears for one
year or more may possibly explain the situation.

Shortly after his election to the Council, Dr.
Ludvig Holmes of Evanston passed away, and at its
next following meeting the Council elected Rev,
Gottfrid Nelson of Chicago to fill the vacancy.

Pursuant to a resolution of the < louncil, our
president attended the dedication at Augustana College,
Rock Island, 111., on May 31st, of the new Denkmann
