PRESIDENT’S REPORT
Since the last meeting of the Swedish Historical
Society, which was held in Chicago on April 9, 1920,
great changes have been made in the personnel of its
council and administrative officers and in plans for the
future activity of the organization. A statement
regarding the important actions taken in recent months is
therefore in place.
Due to circumstances which I deem it unnecessary to
discuss at any length, it was thought advantageous to
the Society that its headquarters and library be
transferred from Chicago to Minnesota. This step was first
suggested and warmly advocated by several Illinois men,
who in the past have done most for the realization of
the aim for which the Society was organized. To
mention only one argument in support of such a move: it
is apparent that the Twin Cities are, and in an
increasing degree will continue to be, the center of Scandinavian
studies and culture in America. Administrative officers
of the University of Minnesota and of the Minnesota
Historical Society have in a spirit of broadmindedness
and with a fine appreciation of the value of our
Scandinavian culture to American civilization gone
definitely on record as willing and anxious to co-operate with
us in realizing our plans for a Scandinavian cultural
center here. Thus the Historical Society, through its
Superintendent, Dr. S. J. Buck, several years ago
announced its intention to make special effort to build
