up a strong library in the Scandinavian-American field,
and even before the transfer of our collection it had
gathered together considerable material dealing with the
history of our race in this country.
Already before a vote was taken at the meeting at
Chicago for the transfer of our library, representatives
of the Swedish Historical Society had been in conference
with the superintendent of the Minnesota Historical
Society regarding terms on which such transfer could
be made, and these negotiations had made it clear that
it would be possible to come to an agreement in the
matter on conditions that would be acceptable to our
members. Definite articles of agreement were made
and submitted in writing to our Society and after having
been carefully considered by our Council the president
and secretary were instructed to sign them in behalf of
the Society. This agreement was likewise signed in
behalf of the State Historical Society by its duly
constituted officers. This agreement in summarized form
provides—
1. That the library of the Swedish Historical
Society is to remain permanently on deposit
with the Minnesota Historical Society.
2. The Minnesota Historical Society will
give our books and other material the same
care as is given to its own property. This
includes binding and rebinding of books.
3. The books of our Society may be classified
and intermixed with the books of the State
Historical Society, but a special bookplate will
be provided to mark them and a card index
catalogue maintained.
