Wiener, Norbert (1894–1964), scientist, USA.

Norbert Wiener had a long and active scientific career that brought the word "cybernetics" into the language and laid the foundation for many aspects of modern computing. He was also a leader in assessing the social implications of that new and emerging technology.

The Norbert Wiener Award is presented annually since 1987 by Computer Professionals for Social Responsibility (CPSR), a public-interest alliance of computer scientists and others concerned about the impact of computer technology on society.
