Preface to the Electronic Edition
Otto Wilhelm Ålund
(1822-1901) was a Swedish historian and geographer. In this book he
gives a detailed account of "America, its discovery, conquering, and
400 years of development" with 35 portraits, 31 sceneries and views,
and 10 maps. Swedish emigration to North America peaked in the late
19th century, and the general population was eager to learn more about
this continent.
The 376 pages are presented in facsimile in 120 dpi grayscale,
combined with unprocessed, "raw" text from optical character
recognition (OCR). Colored illustration plates (maps) are presented
separately in 300 dpi color JPEG.
