Preface to the electronic edition
The book Muhammed : hans liv och hans tro was published in
Swedish in 1930. This is a German translation, published in 1932 in
Göttingen. No translator is mentioned, so it could be the author
himself. Translations also appeared in Spanish, Mahoma, su vida y
su religión (1933), Italian, Maometto, la sua vita e la sua
fede (1934) English, Mohammed, the man and his faith (1936,
new editions in 1956, 1960, 1971), and French, Mahomet, sa vie et
sa doctrine (1945).
The book has been microfilmed and then digitized at the University
of Chicago and made available through the Internet Archive, from where
the scanned images were copied to Project Runeberg in December 2019.
The OCR text provided there was not useful. A new OCR text was
generated with Tesseract 4.0 (Fraktur). All occurrences of long s (ſ)
have been changed into a regular s. This is a good OCR text, but "ch"
is often missing and some "tz" ligatures are misread as ß.
This volume was scanned elsewhere and made available by the Internet Archive,
from where the scanned images were copied to Project Runeberg.
We very much appreciate that they have made this possible
and want to encourage other digital library projects to
